Straddle-Monorail is a form of Urban Rail Transit. At present, Chongqing has monorail lines in operation. Translational Switch in Straddle-Monorail is a new type of switch designed for Chongqing monorail line.Based on original design,3D models of Translational Switch's components and assembly drawings are created; verification and modification are also carried out in this process. Loads acting on the switch are computed systematically. By using of finite element analysis software ABAQUS, static characteristics analysis of Switch Beam, Trolley body, Trolley frame, Joint-shaft and Spline-shaft is done and evaluations are made according to relevant standards. Finite element model of the entire structure of Translational Switch is built; first 10 modals are extracted in modal analysis step; and vibration characteristics of the switch are analyzed. Based on modal analysis, modal superposition method is applied to calculate transient and frequency responses. So the behavior of Translational Switch under loads applied in vertical or horizontal is obtained. In addition, a dangerous exciting frequency range of 6Hz to 20Hz is concluded after analyzing the frequency response curves. At last, Trolley body, Trolley frame and Joint-shaft are redesigned according to static analysis results. Comparing with the results before and after redesign, we can find the improvement is obvious.
