In recent years, along with the rapid development of Chinese railways, the high and new techniques are widely applied to all the aspects of railway industry. As an important instrumentality to ensure train operation safety and to increase transportation efficiency, the Chinese Train Control System (CTCS) has been renovated a lot on the basis of introducing the advanced foreign technology he equipment.The CTCS-2 train operation control system can be used on the speed-up lines whose train speed is greater than 200km/h and the new passenger-dedicated lines. Because the function of CTCS is to ensure railway train operations against accidents, it should have a high reliability itself. This thesis first analyzes the categories, the structure, and the basic operational principles of CTCS, and puts the research emphases on the safety and reliability of CTCS-2.The realization for CTCS-2 to perform depends on the ground subsystem, the on-board subsystem, and the data-transmitting subsystem. From the view of implementing the system's functions, the thesis has established a system structure reliability model, and a fail-safe analysis is carried out to the authenticity of the double-processor shunt-wound system, as well as the two-out-of-two system and the CTCS-2 tandem structure model among the system equipment. Furthermore, the steady state availability of the model is analyzed and calculated with the Markov state transition method. The case study shows that the reliability of the system is much high and can satisfy the requirement for train operation safety.The thesis also finds out the concrete factors in four aspects, such as stuff, equipment, environment, and management, which can decrease the reliability of the CTCS-2 system in the performance and cause the train accidents. With the hierarchy analysis method, the factors are analyzed, sorted by their influence power. Hereby, the improving measures are put forward.Finally, the thesis discusses some problems related to train operation safety when the CTCS-2 system is used in practice, such as which speed grade of CTCS-2 should be adapted, how the CTCS-2 system could be compatible with the other equipment, and how to deal with the urgent failure of CTCS-2 system, etc.
