The process of urbanization is accelerating in our country, which makes the landscape construction activities increased more and more frequently. As an important means to improve urban living environment, the water features construction in urban public space is drawing an increasing attention now. But the design and construction of water features in domestic urban public space are often missing the water conservation and pollution considerations, which will result in a series of problems such as water wasting, declining in the Waterscape quality and so on. Furthermore, it will destroy the ecological environment of urban public space. To have a deep thinking of the existing problems and reveal the causes, this paper first analyses the situation of the construction and the problems of water features in current domestic urban public space, and then provides a new design approach to water features, which makes a combination of rainwater utilization of urban public space design and ecological construction of water features. Based on the "cut expenditure", the new approach starts from the assurance and maintenance of water quality, collects rainwater for landscape water resources, makes the rain water utilization used on the design and construction of waterscape, and gets a more effective construction features for both ecology and economy after overall consideration. The water quality of artificial waterscape in urban public space plays a decisive role in the waterscape quality and ecological benefits. This paper makes use of the urban waterscape ecological restoration techniques to do the construction of water features. In this way, we can protect biodiversity effectively, ensure the value of landscape and entertainment and what's more, reduce the costs of waterscape maintenance and management. Finally, The paper analyses the real completed project about the domestic rainwater utilization, and proposes a development solution.
