This article takes the main contents of general layout as research framework. Based on the characteristic of general layout theory, and the effective tools such as systematic layout planning, digital terrain model, grey system theory and virtual simulation, the research about general layout method, vertical arrangement topographic diagram modeling, leveling elevation calculation method, earthwork calculation method, pipeline vertical arrangement and general layout scheme evaluation is carried on. Finally, a series of general layout theory and method which are effective in practical project are proposed by author.1. The dominant factors in general layout are the synthesize interrelation analysis of workshop unit, layout scheme and scheme optimization. In this article, based on correlation diagram of area, a general layout is designed by author. It is showed that the subjective initiative of designer is important in the scheme arrangement. At the same time, the general layout scheme optimization should be taken as chief consideration in the design.2. In this article, the vertical arrangement is studied from three aspects, which are terrain analysis modeling, leveling elevation optimization and earthwork calculation method. Studied the digital terrain model (DTM) used on constructing natural ground basing on triangulation irregular net (NIT). And also given the digital terrestrial function and its constraint condition function based on NIT model. According to the balanced earthwork principle, the formula of determining irregular topographer who is obtained by square grid method is refined and the leveling element optical method is proposed based on improved least square method. Moreover, this article also studied how to solve earthwork calculation problem by using space surface function based on digital terrain model which is built by using TIN. In this article, the earthwork calculation is carried on by using solid geometry method and function analytical method respectively. Finally, the earthwork calculation formula and earthwork calculation system technical route diagram based on function analytical method are proposed3. The vertical arrangement of intersection pipelines combination is taken as the main object. And then the optimization method of vertical arrangement of pipelines combination is proposed based on the least earthwork, which refined the traditional arrangement method. Finally, the technical flow chart about the vertical arrangement of intersection pipelines combination is drawn. The method is rational and useful in the practical project.4. This article pointed out the importance of scheme optimization in the general layout and has given the index system and index weight determination method in the general layout scheme evaluation. Moreover, the grey system theory is used in general layout and then two kinds of scheme optimization methods are proposed based on improved grey incidence analysis method, the feasibility of this method is proved by example. This article also proposed the synthesis evaluation method of general layout scheme with virtual reality and the technical flow chart.
