In recent years, with the speed of urbanization increased in China there are higherdemands for transportation because of the change of social development. Currently, inheavy commercial vehicle market the high-end market is dominated by new productsand old products trend to become low-end and differentiated. Moreover, the variety ofproducts increases strongly and life cycle becomes shorter, Therefore, the advancedmode of manufacture for multi species and small quantities has become the mainstreamgeneral assembly of commercial vehicles. In order to guarantee high quality of products,costs and date of delivery, the improvement of assembly process is implemented by lotsof enterprises. Meanwhile, according to the requirement of general assembly ofhigh-end products, each automobile manufacturer begins to transform old assemblinglines or build new ones.Combined the application of actual work, this article introduces the project ofrebuilding the general assembly shop for heavy trucks in Foton Motor. The design andscheme optimization of mixed routing manufacturing for multi species are stated, whichincludes the layout design, the requirement of assembly process quality, the selection ofprocess equipments, the determination of technical parameters and the logistics method.In terms of the layout design of assembly process, with plenty of research andanalysis for the technological criteria of heavy trucks’ assembly set by first-classmanufacturers in the domestic and overseas, the proposal of reasonable process designfor multiple types of vehicles is put forward. On the one hand, for the design of themain assembling line, the layout of technological process and the amount of workingpositions are determined by applying analog calculation method, process analysismethod, investigation and measurement method. On the other hand, the type of packinglines is selected and the process layout is designed, by considering with the efficiency ofthe main assembling line and the quality control, combining with the analysis of thecharacteristics of assemblies and the development of vehicle models in the future.According to the design of the process quality control of assembling lines,depending on the analysis of benchmarking manufacturers, the conditions of services,skills and facilities are confirmed. The techniques such as technological process formixed models, assurance level of technological equipments, the establishment of quality control positions and repairing positions etc. are proposed in detail. What’s more, thetypes and technical parameters of technological equipments are selected and definedrespectively so as to meet the requirements of quality control in assembly process.For the design of workshop logistics, it is essential to analyze the method of partsreceiving and the way of batch charging. The logistics form and layout in workshops aredesigned with the help of analyzing product structure characteristics.Achievements include the design of flexible assembly line, the design of assemblyquality control for the whole process, the selection of advanced and applicativetechnological equipments with technical parameter determination, the design of logisticsmethod in workshops. With all these achievements the fourth generation of Oman hastaken credit in the market and laid a good foundation. Specifically, Oman H4reachesthe top of the sales ranking of domestic heavy trucks, which means that it has taken theplace of J6made by FAW and D310made by SAW. It is clear that this brilliant result isnot only related to the factors such as advantages of technologies, correct marketpositioning, reasonable pricing etc., but also attributed to engineering technologies,especially the construction of general assembly workshop (workshop layout design,process quality control, equipment selection and technical parameter determination,logistics design).
