Solar is considered as one of the cleanest energy. With the development and improvement of photovoltaic technology, scientists and engineers are paying more and more attention to the application of solar energy on the tourist ship. With the advantages in energy conservation, environmental protection, zero emission and low noise compared to the conventionally-powered ships, solar ship is going to have a high prospect in the future.This paper achieved the conclusion that there will be a wide range of prospects in the small independent photovoltaic systems tour on board, by analyzing the domestic and international current research on the solar-energy ship. From the comparison between the solar-energy tour boat equipped with the PV systems and the conventional tour boats, analysis will be made and the feasible design process of the solar boat, the major influent and key factors can be achieved. Reasonable compatible parameters can be acquired by analyzing the calculation of the three major subassembly of the PV system, which are the load power, solar array power and the battery. We can get some conclusions from calculation by analyzing two distribution modes (the tracking mode and the fixed mode) of the solar array applied to the tour boat that the tracking mode is better than the fixed mode. In the fixed mode, the horizontal arrangement of the solar array is better than that with a certain angle. And the tracking-mode distribution is related to the richness of the local solar resource. At last, an example is provided. The whole design process of a solar tour boat of small scale sailed in the Kunming Lake, Beijing Summer Palace provided program of the principle dimensions, the distribution mode of the solar array, the optimization of the compatible parameters of the solar array and the battery.The research of this paper reached the results such as the design process of a small tourist boat, the configuration method of solar photovoltaic system, the optimization method of photovoltaic array layout. These results can provide some practical significance and reference value for the study of small solar tourist boat.
