Product self-organizing configuration design, a new research direction of product configuration design, is applied to product design, which can greatly improve the efficiency, shorten product development cycles, and reduce design costs. At present, the research to the evaluation of product self-organizing configuration design, especially to the evaluation of it is studied rarely. However, evaluation is an important part of product design. It will improve the related links and methods of product self-organizing configuration design through evaluation. In order to enrich product self-organizing configuration design theory, the paper mainly researches the evaluation of product self-organizing configuration design as follows:(1) Evaluation indexes are constructed from the design process and design results of product self-organizing configuration design. First of all, aiming at the characteristic of product self-organizing configuration design, the evaluation indexes for the design process have been constructed. And then from common and particularity of the mechanical products, the evaluation indexes for the design results have been also constructed.(2) Matter-element model is chosen to evaluate the process of product self-organizing configuration design. At first, matter-element model is used to evaluate the efficiency, flexibility, accuracy, complexity and automation of product self-organizing configuration separately. And then, the process of product self-organizing configuration design is evaluated comprehensively. Besides, a lot of feedback and suggestions are made based on the results of evaluation.(3) Fuzzy matter-element model is chosen to evaluate the design results of product self-organizing configuration design. The fuzzy matter-element model can evaluate a number of blue prints of product self-organizing configuration design, and obtain the best scheme. Take vehicle leaf spring as an example, fuzzy matter-element model is used to evaluate the best blue print of its design results, and then study the reliability of the method.(4) Take example for vehicle leaf-spring, a simple evaluation system of product self-organizing design results is developed based on VB and Access. Two aspects of product self-organizing configuration design is mainly researched which are the evaluation indexes and methods. It is not only a supplementary theory of the product self-organizing configuration design and product design evaluation, but also can provide some practical guidance significance.
