In this paper,the existing substation pollution control methods and substation pollution on-line monitoring methods at home and abroad are introduced briefly. At the same time, their shortcomings are indicated. Mechanism and characteristics of leakage current are analyzed. On this basis, substation support insulator leakage current sensor based on fiber optic transmission technology is developed. According to the on-site requirements, the Support Insulator Leakage Current Monitoring System is designed. The system is fully functional and user-friendly. The designed insulator leakage current monitoring system can achieve the digital signal, fiber-based transmission and measurement, and the monitoring system will be more stable, more secure and more reliable. The system is installed and tested in 220 kV Chezhoushan Substation Of Tang Shan Electric Power Company. And the data of support insulator leakage current is researched initially after the monitoring system is operating in stable.
