Due to the development of the design for products, the function of general product become more and more completed. In this situation, the configuration of a complex mechanical product is become the key process during product design phase. Most of the proposal of design is to select the suitable subparts from exited products according to project technical requirement.Linearity Weighted method is a useful evaluation method for mechanical drive system selection. Base on the theory of linearity weighted method, this paper setup a evaluation model for escalator drive system. Life time, strength, stiffness, vibration, noise level, size and operation are the key factors in the evaluation system. In this paper, it is detail to analysis the arrangement module of the drives, and the defined of escalator duty load, and the calculation of the motor capacity, and the standard comply of drive chain and gear, and selection of the brake system, and also discuss the impact of energy saving in drive system.As an example, the model was used to determine the drive system of a high rise escalator for certain project. An optimal scheme is successful selection from different schemes. It shows that the method can evaluate different schemes more effectively and objectively.
