| The imperial tombs in the Qing dynasty are the summit of Chinese imperial tombs. The Western Imperial Tombs of the Qing dynasty is the representative of them. The magnificent architecture, beautiful surroundings and profound thought of geomantic omen is the quintessence of knowledge and great treasure of human beings. This thesis attempts to analyze the traditional culture quintessence represented by the construction activity and details in the construction of Western Imperial Tombs of the Qing dynasty from the prospective of Chinese traditional culture.The author attempts to clarify the concepts of geomantic omen, developing sequence and close connection with traditional architecture by adopting dialectical methods such as comparison, analysis, examples and direct measurement. Afterwards, the thesis summarizes the ideology of traditional architecture such as harmony between man and nature, the regulation of the five elements (metal, wood, water, fire and earth, held by the ancients to compose the physical universe) and balance between yin and yang (the two opposing principles in nature, the former feminine and negative, the latter masculine and positive). Ultimately, the author explores and sorts out the systematic ideology of geomantic omen of traditional architecture incarnated by the Western Imperial Tombs of the Qing dynasty. As the guiding foundation material for future study on ancient Chinese architecture and environment planning, it has great practical value and reference significance for future construction, environmental planning, etc.The thesis is divided into four parts: The introduction in the first part introduces the research background, purpose, significance, methods and key points of the status quo and application results of the Western Imperial Tombs of the Qing dynasty and research status and academic achievement in the field of geomantic omen. The second part is the basic analysis of geomantic omen, which sets forth the concepts and other important names. The thesis clarifies developing sequence of the imperial tombs in terms of geomantic omen and expounds the traditional philosophy department to provide important theoretic basis. The third part analyzes the geomantic omen in the construction activity. The author is also concerned with the research on different stages of the construction including the initial selection of location, the medium-term foundation, decoration and the construction of the surrounding environment. The fourth part is mainly concerned with geomantic omen in the traditional architecture which analyzes geomantic thoughts from the prospective of different parts of architecture. In this way, the thesis summarizes some traditional thoughts such as environmental protection, harmony between man and nature, construction according to local condition auspicious thoughts in the symbol of dragon and phoenix and further analyzes significance of geomantic omen to the modern landscape design. At last, this paper analyzes practical function and enlightenment in modern scenery planning and further emphasizes the research results which provide reference for research and analysis in the future. |
