Study On Appropriate Method And Measures Of Speed Limit In Urbanization Road

With the process of urbanization in China, the function of highway has been more and more highlighted. The development of highway may facilitate the communication between towns, and has essential effect on local economic. Highway along towns or villages has been one of the most important roads and economic zones. Traffic accidents took place in the flourishing highways besides economical benefits. Speeding is one of the main reasons which cause road accidents. How to determine the standard and method of speed limit in urbanization road is a problem to solve.This paper targets the features whose environment along highway vary a lot, puts forward an integrated speed limit method which is integrated of "one-size-fits-all" and appropriate speed limit for specific locations. Specific locations are roads across urban areas, villages and schools. According to highway alignment, environment and psychological reaction of drivers, the minimum lengths of speed zone and transition portion are presented. In the light of domestic and overseas research, the 85th percentile speed is treated as the initial speed limit; the speed limit of road section across urban areas is modified according to the one of its adjacent road section. The modification value is 10-20km/h which is dependent on the degree of roadside disturbance. By summarizing the status of speed control measures at home and abroad, this thesis analyzes the principle, conditions and function of visual, auditory, wrong and traffic calming measures. In accordance with the actual situation of urbanization road, integrated measures are offered for typical sections (accidents-prone sections, intersections of mixed traffic and road sections that across urban areas, villages and schools).
