At present, China ranks first in the death rate of road traffic accident all over the world. Driver'fault is the main cause of accidents, especially the driver's unsafe consciousness. Doing research on driver's safety awareness would help to know the situation of drivers' safety and provide technical guidance to give targeted interventions to improve drivers' performance.Based on the review of related research methods and conclusions in home and abroad, combined with the analysize of concept and structure of driver's safety awareness, evaluation index system of driver's sfety awareness and a scale was established. The index system contain 3 indicators (risk attitude, risk behavior and risk perception) and 14 secondary indicators (the general attitude of obey rules, aggressive driving behavior and awareness of safe driving, etc al). Safety Awareness Assessment Scale consists of four components:Risk Perception and Risk Attitude Scale (70 items), risk behavior scale (27 items), Sensation Seeking Scale (14 items) and drivers'information collection. There are 240 drivers become objects of this anonymous questionnaire survey. The scale is revised by the test of items significance, correlation testing, scale reliability and validity testing. Exploratory factor analysis is used to examine the "construct validity" of scale and get the objective weights of indicators. In addition, the survey results and the relevance between background variables and indicators are analyzed, aslo are the driver's sensation seeking on regression analysis of safety awareness secondary indicators.
