In present, the majority of asphalt pavement adopts the traditional material HMA (Hot Mix Asphalt). For HMA's requirement of high temperature, asphalt and aggregate need to be heated to high level in the process of construction. It not only consumes a large amount of energy but also emits abundant of emissions and fumes which threaten the construction environment and the health of workers. Therefore, a new environment-protecting and energy-saving product is developed to fetch up the shortages of HMA. Warm mix asphalt and emulsified asphalt can force asphalt to be mixed and compacted in a comparatively low temperature by the means of reducing its viscosity with the help of certain additive. This paper attempts to study warm mix asphalt and emulsified asphalt in the mixture design, pavement performance, construction technology and social and economic benefits. The results show that:warm mix asphalt and emulsified asphalt can effectively reduce the temperature of asphalt viscosity, and then reduce the mixing and compaction temperature to achieve the purpose of energy saving and environmental protection. Warm mix asphalt can improve the high-temperature performance and enhance the capacity of the rutting resistance of asphalt pavement and at the same time has little influence on its low temperature performance and water stability. Warm mix asphalt has a good performance; it fits the construction of asphalt mixtures under high temperature and heavy traffic. The emulsified asphalt has a poor performance, but in view of its energy-saving and lower construction temperature, it can be generally used in lower quality requirements such as rural road, and the construction under low temperature.
