With the development of national economy, heavy load trucks have greatly increased, which result in the destruction of highway and make the maintenance of highway to be more heavy.Incorrect organization of traffic and improper set of work zone will effect the safety of workers and users, it also increase the delay of traffic and maintenance costs.So it necessary to study the maintenance work zone.The latest research of work zone traffic organization in domestic and abroad was apopted.Firstly the traffic situation of Yulin-Jingbian highway was studied to analysis the properties of traffic flow, which supports the scientific basis to the simulation parameters. Consideration of driving properties, construction scale and traffic volume was made before the traffic organization scheme was set out. It compared the advantages and disadvantages of several different traffic management plans, analysized the work zone length, traffic marks, set of safety facilities, and strategy of traffic flow mixing, suggestions of domestic work zone traffic management was put forward; Meanwhile, traffic simulation and highway construction zone was integrated to analysis the factors of work zone traffic capacity, length of work zone and user delay.Finanlly, the optimizationof work zone length is one of the most important factors to reduce the adverse effects of work zone, the optimistic work zone length in theorical and practical was discussed, and new model of system costs optimization was take out by VISSIM traffic software.Based on the practical analysis about highway of Yulin-Jingbian (K89+000-K204+189), the optimal work zone length was suggested which the length is about 1.5 kilometers.
