The rapid development of freeway transportation industry plays a role to promote the prosperity of the economy.However,the traffic that grows with the development of economy is outside of the forecast quantity of freeway planning. The freeway is damaged and aged in advance and the service level of driving is reduced. It can not meet the needs of traffic growth.To ensure the quality of the use of the freeway and service levels,the local construction should be maintained after a certain period of years.In order to ensure driving safety, reduce the accident risk and keep the good operation of the freeway environment, we should maintenance and repair the freeway timely during the operation, eliminate safety hidden trouble and improve the ability to resist disasters of freeway. There will be more and more work zone.So it is important to research the related issues of the work zone.Firstly,this paper starts from analyzing the traffic characteristics of work zone.Then the elements of freeway and the relation between the elements are analyzed in this paper.The analyses of the traffic characteristics is the scientific basis for the traffic safety management and control. Study and analysis the influencing factors of traffic safety which is used to guarantee the service level of the freeway.If the road is not all closed and driving safety get guaranteed during the period of the freeway construction,it will help us to reach the expected aim of the economic benefit.Secondly,the qustion that calculating the length of the work zone will be studied.On the one hand,we should minimize the work zone influence on vehicle traffic capacity to reduce the hidden trouble and traffic accidents.On the other hand,the construction cost stable at a reasonable range which is advantageous to the construction. If the length of the work zone is reasonable, it will be advantageous to induce the traffic flow,reduce the risk of traffic jams and prevent accidents happened in work zone.Finally,the method of multilevel fuzzy comprehensive evaluation is used in this paper. We create the evaluation index of hi ghway tra ffic by selecting evaluation index, processing quantitative indicators and determining the index weight.Then we made a comprehensive evaluation of traffic safety in work zone with an engineering example.It has been proved that the evaluation model for freeway traffic is of great applicability.
