Electric power steering system has several advantages which the traditional power-steering system cannot compare with. It is the inevitable development trend of power steering technology. Based on the subject of the electric power steering system project, this paper mainly analyses and studies the control center of this system - Electronic Control Unit. It will be a useful attempt about the actual development of electric power steering system project in our country.Firstly, this paper briefly described the status of electric power steering system, and analyzed the basic working principle. Then a control strategy was made which is suitable for electric forklift. Thirdly, according to the control requirements, this paper designed and improved a hardware circuit of the controller comprehensively, and completed the software of this system at the same time. Finally, regarding to the complexity of the work environment of the electric power steering system, it proposed an online adaptive single neuron PID control algorithm and made a comparison with the conventional incremental PID algorithm.
