The road sweeper is one of the important cleaning equipment, which is mainly impelled by manpower, accumulator and oil-fired engine. With manpower, it is labor intensive; with the accumulator, the continued working period is limited; with engine, the environment is polluted by off-gas. China is abundant with solar energy, the research and application have developed rapidly. Now there are solar energy applications in on-grid power generator, fixed equipment and mobile equipment, and it is successful in fixed equipment, while there is little research on mobile equipment, which is complex and difficult, involving weight, area, cost, match and layout, as well as solar panel's orientation, the work mode and operating rules with sunlight periodicity. The road sweeper is common equipment, and the research on solar application has important significance.The road sweeper was the research object, and the application with solar in mobile equipments was discussed in this paper. Firstly, the panel's characteristics were studied with experiment, such as the relationship among the weather,angel,temperature and Solar Photovoltaic Generation efficiency. The weather about Xiamen in 2009 was collected, and basic conditions were analyzed; besides, the solar sweeper was develop, and the power was matching via calculating power, designing the capacity of the panel and accumulator; in the end, simulation for solar sweeper has been researched, which is based on SolidWorks and VRML.The main innovation of the study was composed of the two following respects:first, feasibility research on solar application of the road sweeper and structure study were discussed; second, the working state and process were showed, which is based on SolidWorks and VRML.The development of the sample sweepers has been completed basically, and they have been trial manufactured successfully in our school laboratory and Lianhehuaxin Welding Automation company, now there are five prototypes which are putting into industrial experiments, the road sweeping test result shows good, high efficiency and long working duration with sunlight, and mass productions are preparing for putting into the market and industrial applications. The results show that the application of solar energy in sweeper extends working duration, from 8 to 10 hours, protecting environment and saving energy significantly; the virtual simulation of the solar sweeper demonstrates the working state and process well by SolidWorks and VRML, reducing the risk before manufacting.
