Marine diesel enterprises although have fetched in mass advanced NC equipments from overseas, because of the inaccurate selection of tools and cutting parameters, there are many problems, such as waste of tools, unreasonable utilization of NC machines, disqualification of part quality, which increase the production cost and depress the competitiveness of corporation. So these enterprises urgently need to establish the system about tool selection and cutting parameters selection for themselves.This paper contraposes the actuality about certain manufacture enterprise of marine diesel, uses metal cutting simulation software to simulate the processing of each key part of marine diesel, and builds model according to these results, then according to knowledge of expert system and intelligent algorithm to develop a expert system with the function of tool selection and cutting parameters optimization for key parts of marine diesel which uses Visual Basic 6.0 and Matrix VB as development tool, SOL Server 2000 as background database platform.The module of tool selection is based on fuzzy theory, combines experts experience, weight decision making theory, artificial intelligence and production condition of enterprise to select reasonable tools for users according to the information of workpiece, machines and process conditions. There are lots of tools used during production process, so system firstly screens out the tools suit to certain process with rule-based reasoning (RBR), and then selects the best one with weight decision making.There are four objects of cutting parameters optimization in the module of cutting parameters optimization and this module use the results of metal cutting simulation software to establish the corresponding cutting force model, and uses penalty function method and fuzzy theory to commend reasonable cutting parameters for users according to different require.The system in the paper can supply the reasonable tools and cutting parameters for enterprise during cutting process and take full advantage of tools and machine tool, enhance the benefit of enterprise. The system has a very important practical value.
