It has been confirmed by a large number of engineering practices that cantilever pile mainly depends on soil arching effect to prevent soil between piles sliding off,and then have an anti-sliding effection. Soil arching effect is a form of load delivery which is gradually formed in the soil's non-uniform deformation process, and the arching effect behind piles is widely concerned in engineering field. Especially since the 20th century, the achievements about the measured data of soil arching effect, model tests and theoretical research were gradually increasing, and it began to apply in practical projects widely and achieved good results. But at the same time we can see that the theoretical study of soil arching effect is not yet mature, and people can't understand the soil arching effect well enough. Therefore, anglicizing the form mechanism of soil arching effect behind the cantilever pile, which based on the research of interaction between cantilever piles and soil, is an important research project to be solved in the cantilever pile design. This paper is supported by National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars of China (NO.50625824), National Natural Science Foundation of China (NO.50878218), a subject which belongs to Technique Foundation during the 11th Five-Year Plan Period of China (NO.2008BAJ06B04) and Transmigrate Allocation and Programming Department of the Three Gorges Project Construction Committee (NO.2008SXG02-2). Through the indoor soil-push-pile test and numerical simulation on the stress distribution within cantilever pile and the timeliness of the soil arching effect, I get the main work and research conclusions as follows:(1)Based on the inspection of relevant literature, I get a summary of the research status on cantilever pile's soil arching effect and the formation mechanism of soil arching, then analysis the formers'research achievements on the influencing factors of soil arching effect, such as pile spacing and physical properties of soil.(2) Designed an indoor soil-push-pile test, focused on the internal stress distribution within the soil around the cantilever pile, and researched on the effect degree and range of arching effect around pile, analysis the influencing factors of soil arching effect around pile, such as pile spacing, filling material and soil water content, assumed that most of the direct thrust is loaded by arching effect. Analysis the interaction between the friction soil arching effect and direct soil arching effect, discussed the whole process of the formation, development and dispersion of soil arching effect around pile. Finally, analysis on the stress distribution within cantilever pile and the timeliness of the soil arching effect within the soil behind the cantilever pile under the condition of the external thrust.(3) Use large-scale finite element analysis program ANSYS to calculate the cantilever pile, then compare and analysis the effects between the numerical calculating results and indoor model test analysis results, analysis the pile spacing , embankment soil water content and other factors, which influence soil arching effect around piles. And through the numerical simulation, analysis the influence of different elastic modulus on soil arching effect behind piles.
