The classroom buildings in universities are important teaching space, the indoor thermal environment of which has a great influence on students' working efficiency and health of psychology and physiology. By measurements on the spot and a questionnaire-based survey, the quantitative analysis is applied to the indoor thermal environment of the extension to the first teaching building at Inner Mongolia University of Science and Technology, and some existing problems are exposed.Because the building is located in severe cold area, the good condition in the classrooms is maintained by window sunshade and natural ventilation in summer. In winter, however, ununiformity of the indoor temperature, low humidity of the air and the poor quality of the air caused by lack of ventilation device and seal window/doors are not favorable for study. In this paper some effective measures for improving the learning environment are put forward in terms of the climate feature of Baotou City and influencing factors of indoor thermal comfort, and the conclusion is drawn that the learning efficiency is enhanced under comfortable and slightly colder condition.Furthermore, with a qualitative analysis made with BECS 2008, the condition can be satisfied by relying mainly on building envelopes for heat preservation while appropriately decreasing the indoor temperature. In the end, the application prospect is discussed, and these more easy-to-use and economical measures are supposed be adopted in most of the universities in North China.
