With the economic development in China, more and more cars began to enter into millions of households. On one hand, automobiles bring us unprecedented convenience; on the other hand, they present great challenges to traffic safety management. Large amounts of traffic accidents began to receive widespread attention from the society, and there appeared some research into the ways of preventing traffic accidents. The vehicle collision warning system is an effective way to reduce traffic accidents.Firstly, through the analysis of vehicle braking process, and dynamics and kinematics during the process with vehicle, the process with vehicle is divided into stationary before vehicle, constant speed or accelerated movement and deceleration before vehicle. A model of safe distance preventing tailgating during the process with vehicle is thus established. Through the analysis of the kinematics during the process of overtaking, overtaking is divided into isokinetic overtaking and accelerating overtaking. A model of safe distance for overtaking during overtaking process is thus established. The purpose of establishing models is to be able to fully reflect or describe the real driving situation. However, because the real driving process is very complicated with many factors of influence like weather conditions, road situation, driver's physical and mental condition and so on, which even interact with each other, so various factors should be taken into account when model parameters are determined, and then the fuzzy relations among these factors should be established with the help of fuzzy theory, and at last more reasonable parameters will be obtained. In the end, with the help of GUI, SIMULINK and FUZZY toolbox of MATLAB software, a simulation system based on safety distance model is established, and simulation experiments are conducted to verify the rationality of the safety distance model. The experimental results show that safety distance model and the determination of parameters are reasonable,and they can effectively reduce the false alarm.
