As the basis of smart grid components, intelligent circuit breaker became a hot research topic in the field of low voltage electrical recent years. Domestic and foreign research institutes and enterprises have increased their investment on research and development in this area,particularly for the developers who hope that the intelligent circuit breaker would increase their market share. In order to fully demonstrate the main features of intelligent circuit breaker, Zhejiang Tengen Electric Group had initiated a project for smart circuit breaker platform. To meet this reqirement,this paper has designed a smart circuit breaker platform base on Modbus.(1) After the analysis of Low Voltage Intelligent circuit breaker both in domestic and oversea, we found that intelligent circuit breaker will be the mainstream in future electrical switch products markets. During the period of intelligent circuit breaker research and development, intelligent circuit breaker platform play an important role as the object for promotion and test. so it's necessery to develop the Intelligent circuit breaker platform.(2) Pursuant to the requirements of the demonstration platform, this paper give two design options and one was selected according to the principle of better simulation and better solution.This paper using modular design, and the whole design would be divided into five parts platform, schematic diagrams of the system were given, the hardware composition of intelligent controller module, communication module, signal simulator module, console module, as well as current and time display module was discussed in detail.(3) Based on hardware platform of the demonstration platform designed, this paper developed software modules for the platform and gave the solution and implementation approach in details. Based on modular and state machine design, it was effectively improving the software system flexibility and portability.(4) According to the design of each module, this paper set up a demonstration platform and finish the test on this platform. The platform connected to the PC through the communication module and carried out on the circuit breaker Control presentation.By the end of the operation, it shows that the intelligent circuit breaker demonstration platform was able to demonstrate the basic function of three sections protection, through the host computer which was connected to the smart circuit breaker, it demonstrate the function of current monitoring, parameter modify and switch on-off. The entire system is stable and reliable, achieve the desired design goals.
