Machinery manufacturing industry as a pillar industry in China's national economy plays an important role in the economic development. Along with the continuous advance of economic globalization, China's manufacturing industry is facing more intense market competition, as a core competitive capacity of the mechanical design technologies and innovative product development technology in machinery manufacturing industry get more and more corporate attention. With the further development of computer technology and in-depth applications, some new modern design theory and technology become attention and research focus of the academic and business. As research fields of modern product design theory and technology, computer supported collaborative design technology has become a research hot at home and abroad.Co-design works in a network environment supported by computer hardware and software tool, in order to achieve the overall objective of product design, staff from the multidisciplinary group work together to complete the product design problem. As the co-design with distributives, parallel and more subjectivity, so, it must exist data, conflict, task conflict, knowledge conflict, resources conflict, and other conflicts in the collaborative design process. In essence, collaborative design process is a design conflict resolution processing.The knowledge conflict resolution mechanisms of the collaborative design process were studied in the paper. This provides effective support for the management and control of collaborative product design process. The main work of this paper has the following three points:(1) Based on the analysis of the characteristics and classification of the knowledge conflict in mechanical product collaborative design process, Knowledge conflict detection, archiving, and digestion strategy are studied, and knowledge conflict management model framework is proposed in collaborative design process;(2) Based on the constraint network theory, from the perspective of constraint, constraint network is established in Collaborative design process. Interval propagation algorithm is applied to solve collaborative design conflict detection with characteristics of constraint. On this basis, two types of conflict resolution mechanisms : space-based and decision space-based conflict resolution strategies are introduced in to achieve the knowledge conflict resolution;(3) Based on the theory, taking the selection of bearing as an example in excavator product collaborative design, a knowledge conflict management systems is designed and developed in collaborative design, which based J2EE platform and Struts+IBatis lightweight framework development technology. It realized knowledge conflict detection, archiving, and resolution in excavator collaborative design, and at the same time the feasibility and effectiveness of the prototype system are verified.
