In this paper, used hydrodynamic mathematical model of the middle reach of Huaihe River from Bengbu Gate to Laozishan to study river characteristics. The model can be used for riverway dredging, dike building retreat, flood flowing zone adjustment and in the estuary section of Hongze Lake governance to provide a platform for calculation and analysis.Used the one-dimensional hydrodynamic mathematical model from Bengbu Gate to Laozi Hill to do river discharge capacity calculation, river remediation effectiveness analysis and analyze the impacts of artificial sand mining to river discharge capacity and so on. results showed that under the design water level conditions, the river bottomland and channel discharge capacity is not enough, the discharge capacity in the downstream Fushan reaches is less than the upper part. After the Bengbu River realignment, the flood level of this river is effectively lowed and the result of this project is obvious. The sand mining activity is serious in this part of river, the expansion of the river cross-section increased river discharge capacity, but affected the stability of the local river.The relationship of water level of Hongze Lake and middle part of Huaihe River is studied. The steady flow and unsteady flow calculations show that under the present conditions (not to dredge river), reducing the water level of Hongze Lake mainly affects that of downstream Fushan reaches, less affects that of upstream Fushan reaches. To reduce the water level of Fushan can obviously reduce water level of Wujiadu and then enhance the discharge capacity of this reaches.The two-dimensional mathematical model from Fushan to Laozishan is used to calculate the discharge capacity, which is 8400~8600 m3/s. The channel from Hongshantou to Laozi Hill is branching channel and the left branching takes up 25% to 40% total flow and right branching is 60% to 75%.The discharge capacity of downstream Bengbu Gate reaches is not enough. Besides impacts of the Hongze Lake water level, the reaches self inadequate capacity is another main reason.
