The infilled frame structure is a extensivly applied structure which has the advantage of palne layout and large useable floor area. The infilled frame structure is applied on hotel,office building and apartment. Solid clay brick which has strong stiffness, low bearing capacity and weakly connection with farme is still the main material for infilled wall. During 5.12 Wenchuan Earthquake, many infilled frame structures are destoryed, including the failure of infilled wall and the interaction between infilled and frame. With the development of wall material innovation, the wall material must has characteristics of good seismic performance,energy saving, environment friendly and low carbon. Following the policy of wall material innovation, the paper put forward a new structural system called frame-multi-ribbed composite wall structure which is generated by using the multi-ribbed composite wall as the infilled wall in frame structure to replace the traditional infilled wall after analysing the earthquake damage in 5.12 Wenchuan Earthquake。1,Analysing the destructive characteristic of infilled frame structures and comparing the rules of GB 50011-2001and FEMA356. The emphasis and similarities and differences of GB 50011-2001 and FEMA356 are enduced. Analysing the seismic performance about frame multi-ribbed composite wall structure based on the rules of FEMA356.2,The paper compars the calaulate result of two differernt calculation model on ealstic step. Besides, the frame-equivalent diagonal strut for static elastoplastic stage is established. The formula about the width of the equivalent diagonal strut and Theσ-εof equivalent diagonal strut is also put forward.3,Comparaed the infilled wall, the calculating result of the static elastoplastic analysis for multi-ribbed composite wall on natural period, story drift angle, localized deformation under the frequent and unusual earthquake shows that such this kind of wall can raise the lateral stiffness and dissipate the earthquake energy. The seismic performance of frame-multi-ribbed composite wall structure is much better than the frames with brick infills.
