The vehicle Four-Wheel Steering(4WS)technology is an advanced technology, which has a very hopeful future in application. As an effective means to improve the vehicle handlings tability,4WS technology is widely accepted. Because it can improve the agility, stability and safety of the vehicle's steering test. Combining the information technology and Virtual Reality technology with automobile industry, the thesis puts forward the research project about 4WS vehicle simulation system.Current rearch about vehicle steering technology is mostly based on the certain model, and the uncertain factors and nonlinear factors in vehicle steering system are not sufficiently considered. In this paper, by introducing vehicle four wheel steering system, mechanical model, driver regulation model and the effect of rear tire on the steering activities, we build a driver/vehicle/road closed loop 4WS nonlinear model with five degrees, which is based on the abundant analysis of the nonlinear factors and the uncertain factors of vehicle. This model includes a model of driver regulation and the effect of rear tire on the steering activities. Accordingly, this model is a typical model and is more practical than any other models.This thesis uses Virtual Reality technology to simulate and value the 4WS vehicle simulation system.By analyzing the requests and the technology attribute parameters of the vehicle and the typical environment of test,3DS MAX software is used to construct geometrical models, such as vehicle models and terrain models; The mechanics models are constructed from the statics equations; it is using graphics process technology and virtual environment control technology to simulate the whole process of 4WS vehicle steering.The software is programmed with the language of Visual C++6.0 on the Windows Operation system. OpenGL is used to develop the graphics part. The system software runs well and cost is low. It will be widely exploited.The mechanics models used in the system are easy. In the future, more complicate vehicle running procedures will be simulation. Furthermore, the simulation results must be compared with real data in order to improve the performance of this system. Then the system will be more reasonable and accurate.
