Abstract On exploring the planting technique of Agropyron mongolicum keng and several other species of pastures under the condition of arid cultivation, we selected the fine variaties of Grass family and Pulse family pastures which were suitable for planting in the arid area in our region .On studying the yield component factors, the pastures which were suitable for planting were: Psathyostachys, Agropyron mongolicum keng and Medicago varia cv caoyran. The key factors which affected the pastures can be planted or not were drought resistance and the rate of overwinter, while the key factor of affecting overwinter rate was water. The result of the correlation analysis showed that the yield component factors of the pastures on trial were: individual plant height, stem weight, leaf weight, tillering number and ear weight. According to path analysis, under the condition of arid cultivation, the sequence of the contribution rate to the yield component factors of Psathyostachys was: stem weight, tillering number, individual plant height, leaf weight, ear weight; For Agropyron mongolicum Keng, the sequence was: tillering number, individual plant height, stem weight, leaf weight, ear weight; For Medicago varia cv caoyran, the sequence was:tillering number, individual plant height, leaf weight, stem weight, anthotaxy weight.
