PIgG used for feedings were obtained from abattoir blood by the proc~edure of salting out in ammonium sulfate and sodium sulfate and mixed with other materials to provide colostrum additive and colostrum replacement product. Our objective was to determine the response of newborn piglets fed a colostrum supplement or colostrum replacement product. The results showed:1.Salting out combined with ultrafiltration method from serum provides a cheap, simple method of concentrating serum PIgG. Considered economic profits, salting out in ammonium sulfate is better than in sodium sulfate.2.In the experiment, eighty newborn piglets were selected. The average daily gains measured over the 28-d period were significantly different with the sow colostrum fed piglets (the control group) gaining 199 g/d and sow colostrum mixed with colostrum additive I (the treatment group) gaining 229g/d. The control group had lower serum IgG concentration compared with the treatment group.3.Base on the above experiment, forty-eight newborn piglets were selected to study the effects of feeding different amounts of IgG on survival rate, the incidence of diarrhea, average daily gains and serum IgG concentration. The result showed that colostrum replacement product mixed with 3.5gPIgG were judged superior to other treatment groups. But compared with piglets fed sow colostrum, incidence of diarrhea is higher.4.Colostrum replacement product mixed with colostrum additive?M can play a significant role in preventing diarrhea.
