Studies on the Adaptability of Introduced Borderdale in Hexi Corridor of Gansu ProvinceSpeciality: Genetics,Breeding and production of Animal Tutor: Zhao Youzhang Professor Master Candidate:Wang YuqinAdaptability of introduced Borderdale was studied by the way of observision,experiment and analysis. Behaviors,growth,wool quality,performance of production and reproduction as well as the physiological and biochemical index and disease resistance were tested. Adaptability' of Borderdale in Hexi Corridor was discussed.The results show:l)Behavior of Borderdale was affected by season and management .The sleeping time was significantly longest in summer.rams and ewes were 431.15?7.40 minutes, 409.38?8.45minutes respectively. Ruminant time was obviously longest in autumn, rams and ewes were 630.41?6.57minutes and 585.03?8.00 minutes respectively; The feeding time was longest in autumn season. Rams and ewes were 370.12il2.15 minutes and 381.03 il3.79minutes respectively. 2)Borderdale lambs grew fast, the birth weight, weaning weight, and yearling weight were 4.81?.87kg, 24.15i4.29kg, 62.77?.53kg for ram lamb respectively, and 4.4 li 1.04kg, 22.79i3.95kg, 49.56?.11kg for ewe lambs respectively. Mature weight of rams and ewes were 127.86i8.40kg and 82.17i9.26kg respectively.3) The average woolcut were 9.49i0.44kg and 6.36i0.92kg for rams and ewes respectively; Wool grew fast, and the average speed of growth was 1.42cm for ram ,1.23cm for ewe; Wool qulity was excellent. Wool fineness was 31.90um for rams and 28.37um for ewes. Grease content of wool was 12.51% for rams and 11.03% for ewes. Wool length, strength, clean yield all came to or exceed the standard of true type sheep. 4) The physiological and biochemical index of Borderdale were affected by different seasons, but they all show that Borderdale accustom to climate of Yongchang. 5) Borderdale has a good performance of reproduction. Semen volume of rams every time is 1.46ml; the average sperm concentration is 3.85 billion/ml; sperm motility is 0.74. The average percentage of lambing is as high as 177.2% including 62.26 % double lambing and 6.31% triplet.6) Borderdale have great vitality and lower disease incidence and no infectious disease.The results indicate that in the ecological condition of Gansu Province,Borderdale is growthy, early mature,high body weight, and has good perfermence of production, excellent wool quality, lower disease incidence. Production performance reached or exceeded the level that of New Zealand. We have achieved economic efficency. According to the research , Adaptability of Borderdale is satisfying.We came to the conclusion that it is very possible to introduce meat-breed sheep successfully in the country of which ecological and economic condition is far different from the original,only if leaders or companies at different levels attach importance to the development of introduced sheep, provide the essential technology, creat appropriate condition of production management for sheep survial,orgnize a team of staff and workers who are active and responsible,set up a system of management administration with great vitality.
