The Construction Of Forest Fire Suppression Decision Support System Based On GIS

This dissertation uses the ArcObjects COM components of ArcGis 8.1 and Visual Basic 6.0 on the base of past forest fire fighting system, utilizes the thoughts and techniques of COM, devises and finishes the construction of forest fire suppression decision support system based on Geographic Information System. The system gives strong supports to forest fire fighting decision, through realizing fundamental GIS function, forest fire spread, fire fighting path selection, 3-dimension displays and the management of preparative scheme for fire fighting. The contents and conclusions of the paper include:1. Fundamental GIS functions. The system integrates some fundamental GIS functions that the fire fighting director interested in, such as, Identify, Zoom in, Zoom out, Pan, Measure, Export etc.2.To realize the simulation of forest fire spread. The simulation of forest fire spread is the basis of aided decision. The system gives the forest fire spread modal suitable to the study field based on Rothermel modal and realizes the simulation on GIS environment.3. To select optimized forest fire fighting path. The natural conditions of forest are very various, and there are few roads in most parts of the forest. The system gives the quantitative calculation of different impedance condition for velocities of the fighters and trucks on different roads, different slope and different type vegetation, and gives the optimum path between the start point and the end point that the fire director interested in and the time that the fighters and trucks need.4. 3-dimension displays. The system can display, pan and identify different layers in 3D view, give direct decisions to the fire-fighting director.5. The management of preparative fire fighting scheme. The system manages the fire-fighting scheme under the condition of assumption and actuality in database form.With the development of the system, it will give important guideline to the fire-fighting director, and will play an import role in the fire fighting.
