With the use of GARMIN12 hand-holding GPS receiver which was made in American measuring ground controls, combined with the relief map and the investigated geographic information data on the spot of GongBieLa river area, some processes to remote sensing image TM such as image synthesis, image correction, supervised classification were carried out with ecology and forestry hydrology as their basis and "3S" as their key technique. The results showed that there were 12 land-use types in this area, including needle and broad-leaf mixed forest, birch, farmland and their areas were calculated respectively. The cumulation was calculated for all kinds of forestland to provide theoretical foundations for advanced forest management system.The snow depth and snow-melting speed were measured according to different type of land-use across Gongbiela river area in the period of snow-melting, and the result indicated that the forest plays an important role in delaying snow thawing and increasing snow-melting volume in spring. Samples were selected respective in typical types of land-use to determine water-storage and the measurement of water-storage of forest-litter was conducted in the forestlands. The results suggested that the forest-litter water-storage and soils water-storage of the needle and broad-leaf mixed forests were 190.44t/hm2 and 458.71t/hm2 respectively, much higher than those of any other land-use types. In all the other land-use types besides needle and broad mixed forest, Forestland's water-storage were higher than no-forest-land's. Hence, in order to improved the soil's water conservation ability in this area, quitting plowlands and adding forest showed be advocated vigorously and the needle and broad mixed forest was most profitable.The capability of its forests to preserving water was calculated according to the classified results of remote sensing image in this area and it is 19,400,000t in all GongBieLa river area. Analysis on this area capability of preserving water was carried through from the point of view of economics. The results suggested that the profit of its forests to preserving water was more than RMB 60 million yuan.Some constructive suggestion was put forward for the content which wasn't carried through in this thesis and references were provided for the future research in this area.
