Gentiana is a main genuine Chinese herbal medicine in Heilongjiang province. Fertilizer application could affect yield and quality of gentiana significantly in its cultivation. In order to study the regularity of microelements on nutrient uptake and their effects on gentiopicrocide content in the root of gentiana, as well as on dry root yield, plot experiments of foliar application of different microelement with 2-year, 3-year gentiana manshurica kitag and 2-year gentiana scabrabeg were designed and conducted on the base of analyzing gentiopicrocide of root in gentiana, content of nutrient in the shoot of gentiana and soil nutrients. The contents of nitrigen(N), phosphorus(P), potassium(K), calcium(Ca), magnesium(Mg), sulfur(S), copper(Cu), zinc(Zn), ferrous(Fe), manganese(Mn) and boron(B) in the shoot were determined at vegetative growth period, full florescence period and harvest period, the content of gentiopicrocide in the root at harvest period were also determined, the dry weight of root, as well as the ratio of dry weight to fresh weight of root were measured. The main conclusions are as follows:Soil nutrient status is the major cause affecting the content of gentiopicrocide of wild and cultivated gentiana in the same ecological environment. The results showed that the content of gentiopicrocide increased in B and Fe treated 2-year and 3-year gentiana manshurica kitags. For B treatment, the gentiopicrocide content in 2-year gentiana manshurica kitags increased by 7.86% (p < 0.05 ); the dry weight of 2-year and 3-year gentiana manshurica kitags root with B, Zn and Fe treatments also increased. For B treatment, the dry root weight of 2-year gentiana manshurica kitags increased by 22.42% ( p < 0.01 ); for Zn treatment, the dry root weight of 3-year gentiana manshurica kitags increased by 26.14% ( p < 0.05 ); compared with contronl, Fe, Cu, Mo treatments increased gentiopicrocide content in 2-year gentiana scabrabeg by 20.94%, 18.68 % and 13.21% respectively( p < 0.01 ), the increases in B and Mn treatments were 9.62% ( P < 0.05 )and 6.32%,. All kinds of microelement treatment increased the root dry weight of gentiana scabrabeg except Mn treatment, but the differences were not significant. Microelements also affected nutrient uptake and accumulation, and for different microelement, these effects were not the same, leading to different influence on yield and active ingredient increase. This research analyzed the relationships between soil nutrients and the content of gentiopicrocide in the root and the nutrient in the shoot of same variety wild and cultivated gentiana under common ecological environment for the first time. Plot experiments were set up according to the findings by these analysis. The results firstprove that microelements have significant effects on increasing gentiopicrocide content and yield of gentiana. Accomplishment of the experiment not only is significant in practice, but also lay a theoretical basis for the rational application of microelement in gentiana cultivation.Candidate: Yu Cailian Specialty: Plant Nutrition Supervisor: Prof. Liu Yuanying...
