As an organic component of forest resource and environment sustainable development, Forest site analysis and evaluation is foundation of forestry manufacture. GIS(Geographic Information System) is a kind of system which mainly input, output, query, manage and analyze geographic data with powerful spatial analysis and mapping functions and agile application model, and become an efficient tool of site analysis and evaluation. Applying GIS to site analysis and evaluation is a kind of development trend for site research, it can efficient manage image database and property database, and integrate other data through spatial analysis modules, solve spatial and non-spatial data management and analysis in forest site research.Based on forestry and ecology theory and used GIS as management system, VB and MapX as programmer tools, digital forestry maps as basic data, this paper realizes forest site analysis and evaluation. DEM is established for terrain factors such as aspect, slope; SQL and Stat Function are applied to spatial pattern relationship analysis of species and site factor and forest landscape analysis. Kriging interpolation and 3D module are applied to estimate site index and realize landscape 3-dimension display and analysis respectively. Then this paper establishes forest site evaluation system (FSES) based on Com-GIS, where VB is integrated and MapX is embed in to realize GIS function, and apply PCA (principal component analysis)and expert model to realizing forest site factor analysis and synthetical evaluation, site evaluation auto-mapping and updating. That applying GIS to forest site evaluation and analysis in GuangXi Paiyangshan Forestry Centre, can decrease outdoor workload, replace past casual work, realize that site database is calculated and counted automatically, and that map and database are managed integratedly, and that use new models to solve forestry problems under GIS environment. A conclusion is drawn that, this research has application value to some extent for under-development present situation of forestry management, and that GIS has wide prospect in forestry as a kind of important tool.
