The floral initiation and differentiation of banana(/ww.sfl sapientum Z,.)plant is finished in pseudostem of the plant,this situation is completely different from that of other subtropical and tropical fruit trees.In order to identify the exact period that floral initiation and differentiation would ensue in banana plant and how far it had differentiated,accordingly gave sound evidence for rational application of fertilizer on the eve of foral intiation.The research tried to identify the differentiation status of flower bud in banana plant from the angle of plant nutrition by way of study on the relationship of mineral nutrient ,organic nutrient and some other physiological indexes in banana plant to it's foral initiation and differentiation,combined with field experiment and observations on paraffin cut section.The results as follows:l.Nitrogen,phosphorus,potassium,calsium,magnesium,iron,zinc,copper and boron nutrition were closely associated with floral initiation and differentiation of banana plant,except for manganese and sulfur nutrition,whereras the relationship of manganese and sulfur nutrition in plant to its floral initiation and differentiation was still indistinct.2.Protein,soluble sugar,starch,chlorophyll and free amino acid nutrition were closely associated with floral initiation and differentiation of banana plant.3.Moisture content and peroxidase (POD) activity were closely associated with floral initiation and differentiation of banana plant.4.The third young leaf of banana plant was unified as the diagnosis position.In the phase of floral initiation and differentiation leaf nutrient contents and the average amount of nutrient accumulation were enumerated in a sequence as follows:N2.48%,47.1 0g;P0. 19%,3.52g;K3.60%,68.47g;Ca0.50%,9.43g;Mg0.26%,4.9 lg;S0.11%,2.08g;Mn331.83mg.Kg-1,630.00mg;Fel26.81mg.Kg-1,,242.26mg;Zn 23.82mg.Kg-1,46.22mg;Cu 17.69mg.Kg-1,,33.9lmg;B 6.83 mg.Kg-1,,13.02mg.Proteinl5.47%, 294.44g;Soluble sugarl.34%, 25.13g;Starch0.29%, 5.39g;Free amino acid157.03 mg.l00g-|FW,2983.35mg;Chlorophyll3.32mg.g-1 6295. Img.Moisture content 81.21%,POD activity 0.77AA470.min-1.g-1FW.S.Through split fertilizer test in field ,best treatment ratios were 1 N: 0.60 P20s: 2.57 K2O for a banana plant with the highest fruit yield 31.5Kg per plant.In all it's life optimal fertilizer ratios were juvenile stage 10%:vegetative stage 45%:floral initiation and differentiation stage 25%:shooting stage 20%.6.1n the field experiment of banana plant,observations on growth of the plant had been recorded,finally discovered that floral initiation and differentiation occured with an average of 30-32 total leaves, plant height 220cm-240cm and pscudostem circumference 60-65cm produced.When the physiological differentiation of flower bud took place,the vegetative shoot apex became elonged and produced a series of bracts,at the same time nutrient cotents of it took a great deal of changes.At the same time,paraffine cut sections were observed and found that at the time of floral initiation an average of 10.5 leaves remained in the pseudostem with a range of 9-12 leaves.The time of floral initiation and differentiation was calculated on the basis of an anverage of 10.5leaves remaining to emerge from pseudostem when it occured,77 days from foral initiation to shooting with a range of 66-87 days,47 days from foral initiation to flower differentiation being finished and took .account of female flowers with a range of a range of 40-54 days.7.In the field experiment,found the plant height and pseudostem circumference were closely correlated with number of hands at shooting.Multiple regression correlations among plant height, pseudostem circumference and number of hands at shooting as follows:Y=0.024Xi+0.085X2-2.030, Height Xi(cm), Pseudostem circumferenceX2(cm),no. of hands Y.8. Being kept a certain number of green leaves was advantageous to foral initiation and differentiation.
