It is seductive to empolder Salvia bowleyana because it contain manifold drug composition. The study were to find out the best medium of in vitro propagation and effective methods of induction of polyploidy with colchicine in Salvia bowleyana .The results of in vitro propagation were as follows:(1)The high frequency (93.33%) of clump sprouts induction in Salvia bowleyana was observed on the MS medium with 1. OmgL-1 6-BA, 0. 2 mgL-1 IAA. The number of clump sprout counted to 20-30 Entries, The clump sprouts will stuggy growth when were switched to Subculture medium:MS+1. 0 mg. L-1 6-BA without IAA after 20 d. The 3 cm bud will root when was switched to rooting midium : 1/2MS+ 0. 5 mg. L-1ABT +7 g. L-1Agar+ 2%Sugar after 7 d, the rate of rootage arrived at 95%, and the survival rate after transplantation was 90% to 95%. (2)The green sprout and the pale brown calli on the leaf edges and the petioles on the MS medium with 1. 0 mg. L-1BA, 0. 2 mg. L-12. 4-D, still showed the capability of differentiation after several subcultures. They could normal differentiation when were switch to the medium without 2, 4-D.In the polyploid induction: (1) treatment of the buds with 40 mg. L-1 of colchicine for 5 d, with a doubling rate of 11%. (2) treatment of the calli and the leaf slices pre-cultured with 15 mg. L-1of colchicine for one week, both came to the same thing but the later showed the better doubling effects ,with a doubling rate of 33. 33% and short time , of which the majority were wholy doubled plants.Polyploid identify:The laminae of doubled plant produced morphophysiological variation , and an obviously bigger stoma size compared to diplod plants. Chromosome number of the doubled plants ranged from 8 to 64, part of the doubled plants were identified as homologmous tetraploids. Through comparative research by Isoenzyme , indicate the Salvia bowleyana had variated; Salvia miltiorrhiza and Salvia bowleyana have same isoenzyme cingulums.
