| The species of genus Aphytis Howard (Hymenoptera: Chalcidoidea: Aphelinidae) are important primary ectoparasites of armored scale insects (Homoptera: Coccoidea: Diaspididae) and play an important role in biological control. The present paper deals with the systematic studies on the genus Aphytis Howard from Northeastern China and South Korea. It comprises two parts, namely general account and systematic account. In the general account, the taxonomic history, current taxonomic notes, morphology and some methods for collecting and preserving chalcids are reviewed. In the systematic account, 9 species of Aphytis are recognized from study region, including one new species (A. albus sp. nov.) , three new records from South Korea (japonicus, diaspidis and vandenboschi) and one new record from Northeastern China (diaspidis). All the species treated in this paper are described and illustrated or photoed in detail and a key is given to the species for the females. The type specimens and other material on which this study is based are deposited in Northeast Forestry University, Harbin, China.Aphytis albus sp. nov. This species belongs to lingnanensis group in a relatively long propoduem with large, strongly overlapping crenulae. This new species can be easily distinguished from other members of the group by the following combination of characteristics. Whitish body, immaculate thoracic sterna, large, round, and strongly overlapping crenulae, relatively long oviposition shaft and the sheaths.Holotype, ♀ ( KA0107-19-1 ) , National Arboretum, Pocheon, Gyeonggi-do, Korea. Ex. Pseudaulacaspis cockerelli (Cooley), 19-VII-2001, Li Chengde. Paratypes, 7 ♀♀, the same data with holotype. |
