Study On The Current Situation And Affecting Factors Of Maize Production In Guangxi Province

Through systematic investigation in Mashan and Dahua County (poverty counties) and 35 farmer's household questionniaries , a situation analysis on maize production and technical innovation has been elaborated, Meanwhile, the major constraints affecting the maize production in the survey areas had been identified by questionnaire survey, and countermeasures for promoting the future development of maize sector have been recomended by the authors.The authors have drown following research conclusions:(1) Maize is one of the most important cereals for the surveyed areas, under the promotion of development policy and technical interventions, both the maize yield per mu and total production in the surveyed areas are still improving, and the quality of product is changing. However, the fundamental production conditions and cultivation environment did not improved significantly.(2) Even in the maize growing areas, the maize production doesn't make great controbution to farmers' agricultural income. But, maize production can provide basic materials for other industries. The application of production technique was affected by various factors both internal and external. Farmers who choose advanced techniques just accord to increased benefit.(3) The natural disasters, such as drought and flood, are the mainly constraining factors for the production in Maize. The selection of varieties and cultivation techniques by fanners also depends on whether it could be fit to local biological environment. New varieties with higher performance and practical applied techniques are needed by the surveyed households.(4) Agricultural extension service, as main actor for providing the technical service to maize production, can not meet the demand of maize growers. Strengthening the supervision to agro-input market is seen as important countermeasure for protecting farmers benefit. Therefore, the local government should pay much attention to it.
