Taking the extension of the new rapeseed variety -YYangyou No. 4 as the case and having the farmers in Baoying County, Jiangsu Province as the objects of research, the thesis has made the analysis of the factors influencing farmers to adopt the new variety with the theoretic perspective, then obtained empirical data with household questionnaire interviews and analyzed statistically the factors influencing the adoption with Probit Model, and made the comparative analysis of the four models applied in the dissemination of the new variety and identified their advantages and disadvantages as well as the extent and scope of their suitability. Finally, the conclusions of the research and recommendations to improve the extension were proposed. The conclusions include:1. There is no fixed or unique good model for the extension of new varieties of crops. Proper models need to be developed or adopted according to various species, varieties and geographic areas. The four models to disseminate Yangyou No. 4 have their respective advantages and disadvantages as well as the suitable extent and scope. However, the model of "Pulling by leading enterprises" was the most successful from the respective of outputs or effects of extension.2. Among the factors influencing the extension, the five factors - the times to contact the extensionists, satisfaction degree about the extension services, acreage of the household's arable land, whether or not having township/village cadres in the family, etc. played the most significant positive effect. The sex of the household's heads and non-farming income played also significant positive effect. In addition, the education years of the household's heads, the gross annual income of the families, the number of farming labors and the profitability of cropping had also a certain degree of effect to the dissemination of the new variety.3. The first four important risks the farmers considered rank as the false seeds and pesticide, the decrease of product price, climate disasters, and pests and diseases. The majority of the farmers interviewed considered the lost of 500 to 2,000 yuan as the limit scope for them to endure the risks.4. The main channel for farmers to obtain information was through the government institutes of extension, followed by TV and newspapers/magazines and the relatives and friends. Therefore, all of them are important to the dissemination of new techniques and varieties.5. The scattered management of arable land by individual households is not so suitable to the extension of new agricultural technologies. In the areas with proper conditions, the arable land should be comparatively concentrated to the farmers who have better knowledge and skills and interest in crop farming, to develop family farms and scaled production for better efficiency and profitability.
