This paper studied the yield and quality of dark sun-cured tobacco of Jilin province through physical appearance, chemical components and balanced fertilization. The results of changing laws of main chemical components showed that the accumulation of total nitrogen, protein, total sugar and reducing sugar were increased since 30 days after transplanting, and nicotine was accumulated rapidly since 50 days after transplanting. More than 50% of main chemical components were started to accumulate since 50 days after transplanting. The peaks of daily accumulations of total nitrogen, protein, nicotine, total sugar and reducing sugar were appeared at fiftieth, eightieth, sixtieth, seventieth and fortieth day after transplanting respectively. The content of the main chemical components in tobacco leaves came highest, that in stem next and that in roots least. The results of physical appearance showed that maturity characters of leaves were fairly sharp 30 days after topping for upper leaf, 35 days for cutters and 40 days for lugs. At these time, leaf maturity was 70~90%. The quality was the best at 80% maturity. At the same time, we ascertained the amount of fertilizer. The results showed that the yield was enlarged with increasing the using content of nitrogen. But when the using content of nitrogen was over 100kg/hm2, it would happened that nicotine was higher, sugar was reduced, color was darker and chemical components were maladjustment. That was to say variety YanShai No.5 was the best at the combination of N , P2O5 which the nitrogen level was 100kg/hm2.
