Acantholyda posticalis Matsumura has become an important pest that eats needles of Pinus koraiensis in Liaoning province recently. The outbreak area and damages it caused increased annually. 28.95 to 59.21 percent of the wood volume lost as 50 to 75 percent of the pine needles have been devoured, and when the percent of pine needles devoured reached to 75 to 100 within two years, one of three of the trees might wilt and produce no seeds. After the research work from the year 2001 to 2003, we got to know the life history of A. posticalis Matsumura in Liaoning and its biological character as well as factors that affect the amount of population. We also obtain the larva's spatial and horizontal patterns on distribution and its sample technique. Further more, we estimated the larva' s appetite and losses in economy it caused as well as the permitted pest density when offer a certain quantity of fresh needles in different diameters. After observed time needed in different growth periods of A. posticalis, determined its potent accumulation temperature in the period of eggs and investigated the factors that cause its death in different growth periods, we offer a method that forecasts and predicts the amount and time when A. posticalis outbreak. We found good effects when sprayed or fumed the larvas and imagoes of A. posticalis with no public nuisance pesticide, and we acquire prominent economic benefits after test in large areas.
