Punching transplanting is a normal agricultural technology, but the traditional and manual methods of transplanting have many problems which could not be resolved up to now. So it is an immanency task to realize transplanting mechanization in China.Based on theoretically analyzing and computer simulating, the relationships between the hole made by the puncher and the construction of the puncher have been set up , and a computer simulation model for the hole has been built and formulated with some useful results for the design of water-wheel transplanter in this paper. Meanwhile, a water-wheel transplanter for testing has been developed by author, which showed it could transplant crops practically. The test results have indicated that except the construction of the puncher, the sliding rate of the water-wheel and the density of soil are the most important factors which effect on the figures of the hole. The water-wheel transplanter will become a successful beginning of transplanting technology in China, specially in realizing punching transplanting..
