In order to further develop compression theory of agricultural fibrous materials and exploit fresh herbage product, an experimental study of the direct compression process was conducted for corn stalk with different moisture content on the 9KG-350 model high density baler. Based on the data of experiment, a mathematical model in term of the relationship between compression pressure and displacement as well as the compression pressure and density was established and a theoretical analysis was carried out for the compression process of corn stalk at different moisture content, having acquired the law for the moisture content to exert influence on the basic parameters in the compression process. On the basis of the above, comprehensive analyses on the relationship between the moisture content and the maximum compression pressure, maximum compressed density and the power consumption were conducted respectively, having advanced a theoretical basis for the optimum design of the baler.
