The experiment was conducted to study the influence of various dietary riboflavin on the immunity and blood biochemical parameters of New Yangzhou chickens in the normal environment, as well as to study the riboflavin requirement of New Yangzhou chickens for. optimum performance and immune status. 288 New Yangzhou chickens of 1-day-old were randomly divided into 4 treatments, there were 3 replicates in each treatment and 24 chickens in each replicate. The chickens in cages were fed one of diets, respectively, i.e (1)basal diet; (2)basal+3.6mg/kg riboflavin; (3)basal+7.2mg/kg riboflavin; (4)basal+14.4mg/kg riboflavin. Results were summarized as follows:l.The effects of riboflavin on average weight were related with the dose of riboflavin added to the diet and the leg paralysis occurrence and mortality rate were greatly reduced to zero in treatments with 7.2 andl4.4 mg/kg riboflavin, but it did not significantly influence average weight(P>0.05).2.The addition of riboflavin into the diet could have an effect on the developments of thymus, spleen and bursa, significantly especially in the late experiment course.3.The addition of riboflavin into the diet could gradually increase cellular immunity of new Yangzhou chickens. The counts of erythrocytes and lymphocytes could be increased with the dose of riboflavin added to the diet, but there were no significant difference between the treatments (P>0.05).4.The addition of riboflavin into the diet could increase the antibody titers of Newcastle disease vaccine. 7.2 and 14.4 mg/kg riboflavin could significantly increase theantibody titers and could keep them higher than control in such a long time, respectively.5.GPx(glutathione peroxidase) activities in thymus, spleen and bursa could be increased with the addition of riboflavin into the diet, while LPO contents in them could be decreased. The addition of 14.4 mg/kg riboflavin into the diet could significantly increase GPx(glutathione peroxidase) activities but significantly decrease LPO contents in thymus, spleen and bursa than control group,respectively.6.EGRAC(erythron glutathione reductase activity co-efficient) is one of better index for evaluating riboflavin nourishment condition of New Yangzhou Chickens. The additions of riboflavin into the diet could made significant effect on EGRAC and it gradually could be decreased with the addition of riboflavin into the diet.7.The addition of riboflavin into the diet could increase both the contents of total protein, albumin and globulin and activities of GOT and GPT. There were no more significant differences between the treatments than control except that the addition of 14.4 mg/kg riboflavin into the diet significantly increases the contents of total protein and globulin of 49-day-old Yangzhou Chickens.8.All of the results concerned above showed that riboflavin addition improve the immunity and performance of new Yangzhou chickens in the normal environment. The suitable recommended addition level of new Yangzhou chickens should be 7.2 mg/kg riboflavin.
