Tobacco is one of the important economic crops in China. Flue-cured tobacco's leaf quality determines its application and economic value. However, due to the lower fertilizer efficiency and poor potassium enriched capability, the quality of flue-cured tobacco as a whole in China can not meet the demand of good quality and proper yield. How to increase the fertilizer application efficiency and potassium content in tobacco leaf is a key measure for improving the quality of flue-cured tobacco. Based on the rice formulated fertilizer synergist formulated by Hunan Provincial Key Lab of Phytohormones and Development, a tobacco fertilizer synergist was formulated and its application and mechanism were studied. The field experiments were designed as random blocks designs and conducted in tobacco engineering centre in Hunan Agricultural University. Five treatments were set up and each treatment repeated for 3 times. The treatments are:A: CK(without fertilizer)B: formulated fertilizer(750kg/hm~2)C: formulated fertilizer(750kg/hm~2)+ synergistD: 20% fertilizer dosage reduced (600kg/hm~2)+ synergistE: 40% fertilizer dosage reduced(450kg/hm~2)+ synergistThe results are as follows:Synergist affects the agronomic characteristics of Flue-Cured Tobacco. There is significant difference between treatment A and other treatments at 0.01 level. Comparing with treatment B, the agronomic characteristics of C is the best with leaf length and stem diameter increasing by 5.12% and 5.48% separately, and leaf width and stem diameter of D decrease by 6.98% and 4.62% separately, howerer, all the agronomic characteristics of E reduce by more than 10%.Synergist also affects yield output and production value of Flue-Cured Tobacco. There is significant difference between treatment A and other treatments at 0.05 level. Comparing withtreatment B, the yield output of C increases by 9.52%, production value increases by 3%, the yield output of D, however reduces by 8.57% but production value increases by 5%, both the yield output and production value of E decrease greatly, and reduced by 21.5% and 20.58% separately oSynergist affects the content of chemical components in Flue-Cured Tobacco as well. The content of soluble and reductive carbohydrate of treatment C is the highest and A is the lowest, there is no significant difference among treatment B,C,D and E, but all of them are significant higher than that of treatment A. However, during the later stage, the content of soluble and reductive carbohydrate of treatment D is the highest and there is no difference among treatments. Synergist increases the content of soluble and reductive carbohydrate in Flue-Cured Tobacco when applied in a suitable dosage. The content of total nitrogen varies slightly, maintain a level of 20% and drop to someextent at later stage. There is significant difference between treatment A and other treatments but no significant difference among treatments in the content of total nitrogen the first time determined. The content of nicotine in leaves enhanced obviously with growth. Synergist is found to raise the content of nicotine in leaves at different stage but the content of nicotine is still lower slightly than treatment without synergist. There is no significant difference among treatment and treatment with 20% dosage reduced (600kg/hm2) + synergist is found to be the best dosage for the metabolic balance of carbon and nitrogen. The content of K2O decrease with growth and potassium content does not increase with the dry weight of tobacco plant, on the contrary, K2O is diluted for its lower increase extent than that of dry weight. The leaf contents of K2O in treatment A,B,C,D and E measured the last time are only 74.%> 66.7%n 79.7%> 88.5% and 91.1% separately of the contents the first time measured. Synergist reduces the diluted effects, especially for treatment with 20% dosage reduced (600kg/hm2) + synergist which is found to has the best effects. Chloride is an sensitive element for tobacco and 0.3%~0.8% is the suitable content in leaves. As a result, chloride is not applied now and this often causes the deficiency of chloride in tobacco. As the necessary element, chloride can not only benefit the growth and development but also raise the quality of tobacco leaves. The content of chloride in formulated fertilizer+ synergist is slightly higher than that in formulated fertilizer, but still in the suitable extent.
