The human's ability to exploit and utilize the natural resources is increasing with the high-developed productivity and drastic conflict between the limit land resources and the increasing population. Under the situation of poor environmental protection realization and the lagged harness, the ecological environment is becoming worse.Soil erosion is the result of people's unscientific land use. Based on landscape ecology theory, the ecological pattern of land use and soil erosion in Bishan County was studied quantitatively in order to know and improve scientifically and fully the ecological environment in the study region.Using GIS software ARCVIEW, 7 landscape indices (Diversity, Evenness, Dominance, Fractal dimension, FN, FS and Isolation ) were chosen to study the spatial patterns of the land use and soil erosion in Bishan County. The results showed that: (1) In Bishan County, sloping fields and paddy fields were the main land-use types, and forests had a little distribution, while the areas of other land-use types were relatively small. The landscape dominance and fragmentation were relatively high, the Isolation indices were relatively low, and the distribution of patches was relatively centralized; (2) The soil erosion were mainly distributed in sloping fields and paddy fields. The dominant degree of soil erosion was relatively low, and every grade of soil erosion had some distribution area. As a whole, the fragmentation of Grade 12 and 13 was relatively high and the fragmentation of Grade 11 was highest. The distribution of patches was centralized and had a low separation degree. (3) In general, the soil erosion happened in different land-use types had a low dominate degree (except Orchard), and every grades of soil erosion could be found in every types of land use. The fragmentation degree of soil erosion in the sloping fields and paddy filed was...
