15 2-month-old ChangxBai growing pigs(emasculation) were randomly divided into three groups, including control group, high selenium group, high selenium and high copper group. Then it was to determine the content of malondialdehyde(MDA), hydroxide free radicals(OH) and nitric oxide(NO), the activities of superoxide dismutase(SOD), glutathione-peroxidase(GSH-Px) and nitric oxide sythase(NOS) in serum. The results showed that the content of MDA, OH and NO increased(P < 0.05) or increased significantly(P < 0.01) while the activities of SOD and GSH-Px decreased(P < 0.05) or decreased significantly(P < 0.01) when selenium toxicity happened. At the same time, the content of NO was increased or decreased with changing of NOS activities. These findings registered that the mechanism of chronic selenium toxicity may be damaged by free radicals.
