The output of Crop Straw is high in our country, but as a kind of non-competitive resource, the amount to be used as animal feed is less than 10 % .The principle of the fermentation of microorganism of straw Feed is to take advantage of highly active microorganism vaccine, mainly including mould, yeast and some kinds of bacteria. One way is to secrete many kinds of enzyme by mould and to change the fiber, starch and sugar into many kinds of sweet substances; the other is to make certain composition in the feed compose some substances having high nutrition value and better taste by yeast and milk acid bacteria., such as protein, amino acid, vitamin, organic acid and unknown growing factors , thus the straw becomes a kind of soft ,puffy and delicious coarse feed, partly eliminating the shortage of ensiling and ammonia. The fermentation of microorganism is one of the effective ways to solve the contradiction about man and livestock's fight for grain.The composition and mixture of material is the main restrictive factor. The stud fermentation is most important in the fermentation of Straw Feed. The stud fermentation differs for the fermented feed's nutritious demands, fermentation technology and the kind of material. The selection and composition of stud fermentation is a difficult point to the treatment of Straw's fermentation of microorganism. It is also one of the most important factors about Straw's biological transformation efficiency. And the comments on the quality of the fermented Straw Feed should include some comprehensive comments with physical, chemical and biological index. By elaborating the usable effects of the fermented straw feed, some remarkable advantages are known further. In the meantime, we must know that the research on straw feed's fermentation of microorganism is not enough and many problems which can't be neglected exist. But seen from the angle of agriculture's continued development, Straw Feed's fermentation of microorganism has great developing prospect.The yearly output of grain in Yichang is about 1,730,000 tons, of which over 150,000 tons can be used for feed. And the annual output of crop straw is 1,040,000 tons, but of which less than 10% is used for feed at present. The straw in the form of dry grass is fed to the ruminate animals such as cows and sheep, of which little is ensiling and ammonia.And most of which is used for fuel, going back to the fields straightly, turning into fertilizer and building houses. With the famous leading enterprises such as Junyao, Wahaha and Weiwei Soy Milk which are engaged in processing milk settled in Yi Chang, the development speed of raising cows and sheep is become faster and faster, but the corresponding technique on raising the poultry is backward and the feed for winter hasn't been popularized.In this article the present situation of the fermentation of microorganism of straw feed is introduced, and according to the breeding situation and the development program of living- on-grass livestock, we probe into the significance of spreading the technique and the countermeasures and measures which should be taken.
