The study is conducted on twenty different fall-dormancy(FD) degree alfalfa varieties coming from different countries and regions, such as Algonquin, WL-232HQ, Jacklin, Farmer's treasure, Empress, Alfking, WL-324, WL-323, WL-323ML, Forerunner, Aohan, Zhongmu No.1, Baofeng, Alfagraze, Affinity, Sitel, Hunterriver, Arriba, Friendship, Captain. The experiment studies these varieties' agronomic character such as the total yield, plant height, stem/leaf ratio, fresh/dry ratio, and observe everyone's the phonological stage and the survival rate in winter, and analysis everyone's nutritive matter content in the different development stages. The result shows: 1.In Jinzhong region, sowing in spring alfalfa varieties between FD2 and FD7 is feasible and all the varieties can survival in winter. Among these varieties, the survival rate in winter of non-dormancy is lower (61.56%~67.59%), and semi-dormancy (68.57%~85.24%) and dormancy is higher (85.16% -97.62%). The return green time of semi-dormancy is earlier than dormancy and non-dormancy in spring. So, in local natural condition dormancy and non-dormancy variety should be introduced and spreaded.2. The total yield of semi-dormancy is higher than dormancy and non-dormancy. Among all the varieties, FDS is the highest, the next is FD7, FD6, FD4, and FD3 and FD2 are lower. The fresh grass yield is positive relevance with the plant height, but among different varieties, the fresh grass yield have no directly relevance with mean plant height With the passing of the development stages, the stem/leaf ratio of alfalfa appear the trend of first rising and then dropping, and achieve the peak in the bud stage. And the stem/leaf ratios of different varieties have no significantly difference in the different development stages. Moreover, with the change of the development stages, water content is dropping, and the fresh/dry ratio is following dropping. And the fresh/dry ratios of different varieties have significantly difference in the different development stages (P<0.01). In the same development stages, the fresh/dry ratio of different varieties have significantly difference (P<0.05).3.With the passing of the development stages, Ash content is dropping, OM content is rising, ADF content is also rising, and CP content is also dropping. Every varieties' CP content is above 18% in the blooming stage. So, all the varieties are used as high quality protein feed. In this experiment, nutritive values of all the varieties have no difference. Thus, they can plant so as to high quality forage.
