Rongchang Pig is an excellent provincial pig strain which is the best breed in quanitity and distributes all over China. It has strong adaptability and good conjugation ability. Its meat and bristle quality are first-class in the world. The characteristics of coat color is unique in the world. Each produce performance comes out top in all provincial breeds. It shows very obvious heterosis(hybrid vigour) . The meat quality is also very good in its hybrid. Because of not having a Long-term program breeding service, crossing in large mass and deducing in quanitity, protecting Rongchang pig is faced with breed degenrate and scale smaller and smaller. So it is very stringent and important to make a long-term program to protect and develop Rongchang pig , to find the new technique and to study the good genetic performance of Rongchang pig.This paper was reported that they found the questions in protecting Rongchang pig by investigating resent genetic resource of Rongchang pig and put forward countermeasure and took some useful measures to protect the good provincial breed.They found the following questions : (1) Fund of protection was shoetage. (2)There was no uniform department to administer study on genetic resource of Rongchang pig. (3)The work of protecting Rongchang pig was lack of systematy, continuity and harmonity. (4)Don' t do well with therelation of protection and development. ?The means and techniques of protection very poor. ?Don' t have a long-term program to develop Rongchang pig.And take these measures: ?Set up a unique protection department to protect genetic resource of Rongchang pig. (2)Increase the fund of protection to make the work of protection run rightly. ?Set up core groups and rural mulitiply basic groups to make clssification (grade) protection. ?Use a systematic and dymamic method to protect breed by integrating protecting breed, selecting and breeding with development. ?Develop embryo freezing technique and DNA library protection for the sake of long - term protection. ?Supervise and mensurat genetc resource of Rongchang pig by setting up network of genetic resource. ?Enhance the basic studies in molecular genetics of Rongchang pig to recognize Rongchang pig and protect the Knowledge Property Right. (8) Build up industrialized development to make good use of Rongchang pig.
