The vertical header is the central equipment of self-propelled corn combine harvester forboth ears and stalks. The main equipments of vertical header were processed theoretical analysis. Some primary structure parameters were determined and a lot of experiments were carried outin the field. The experiment of picking ears was carried out by self-made test-bed , whichprovided theory for designing corn combine harvester. The main parameters and structures of the vertical header were designed by boththeoretical design and practical tests. Based on the experimental results of corn stalk criticalangle, the main parameters of gathering units were determined so as to increase the gatheringability. The reciprocating cutter increased the adjustability for widely variety row spacings. Theshortages and conceivability of gathering equipment were put forward through analysising thespeed and performance. Based on the study ahead, the parameters of vertical snapping rollermatched with vertical hob shredder were summarized. In the corn-harvesting season of the year, the equipment was matched onto the self-propelled harvester and a lot of tests were carried outin the field. Results indicated that the vertical-roller corn picker with hob stalk shredder has anextensive applicability for corns with different row spacings of different species. The process of snapping ears was tested in order to guarantee the best snapping quality andextend the theory for designing corn combine harvester, during which the torque for snappingears was tested, the marked factors effecting the torque were finded and the optimal rotatingspeed range was determined.
